PilotLegis consists of a team of mid-sized law firms working together to purchase professional liability insurance through a risk purchasing structure referred to as a Risk Purchasing Group (RPG). Officially known as Professional Insurance Liability Organization, Inc., PilotLegis is a California Nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation.

PilotLegis was formed in 1990 as a member-controlled entity that leverages the Group's purchasing power in the commercial insurance marketplace to provide security and stability of insurance to its membership.
